COLLEGE ADVISING for STUDENT-ATHLETES

"Thanks, Linda. my daughter came home excited and THINKING after meeting with you. She really enjoyed working with you ...and I am SO pleased you are working with us!!!"
(Parent of Falmouth High School Student, 2009)

The planning strategies for college admission and selection are different for student-athletes.  Additional factors for a successful college match include considerations such as NCAA Divisional Conference level, athletic scholarships, and player-coach relationships.  Dr Linda recommends that student-athletes start their college planning during sophomore year to become familiar with strict NCAA requirements governing student eligibility/recruitment during the college admissions selection process. Student-athletes need to develop yearly schedule of athletic competition activities and write a student-athlete resume to send to prospective coaches.

  • There are strict NCAA academic and athletic requirements governing student eligibility and recruitment during the college admissions selection process.
  • Student-athletes will need to include these separate action items (listed below) into their yearly College Advising Action Plans.

• Start planning now!
• Work hard to get the best grades possible.
• Take classes that match their school’s NCAA List of NCAA Presentation

approved core courses to certify initial eligibility.

  • Double check to make sure that courses match their high school’s NCAA List of Approved Core Courses.

  • At the end of Junior Year, request high school guidance send (do not Fax) an official transcript to the Eligibility Center after completing junior year.
  • Student-athletes should also have their SAT/ACT scores forwarded directly to the NCAA Eligibility Center whenever they take their exams (code is "9999")The Eligibility Center will use the best scores from each section of the ACT or SAT to determine the best cumulative score.
